What inspired you to pursue a career in accounting and obtain your CPA license?
I have a passion for teaching and was headed down the professor route. I did not give much thought to a career in accounting until my accounting professor advised I give it a shot before pursuing being a professor. I am forever grateful he did so. A similar story can be told about the CPA license. I have been fortunate to have wonderful mentors that continue to help shape and guide my career.
What excites you most about working in accounting?I love puzzles, and accounting problems are often like puzzles to me. So, I enjoy that aspect of it. Additionally, I love the fact that I am collecting real life stories that I will one day tell my students as a professor. I appreciated each time my professors told us how things work in the real world in addition to what was covered in the textbooks.
What aspects of your TXCPA/TXCPA East Texas membership do you find most valuable?
Having plugged in to serve on the TXCPA East Texas YEP Committee, I find great fulfillment in helping plan and organize events for our young & emerging professionals. I also find the other networking events valuable.
