What inspired you to pursue a career in accounting and obtain your CPA license?

In high school, I took accounting as an elective with Ms. Janice Holcomb. I thought it was interesting, but I didn’t think much of it until she asked me to be a member of the LHS UIL Accounting team. The more I learned about accounting through the studying needed for the UIL team, the more interesting it became. Then I worked at local CPA firm while in college and decided that I wanted to work in Tax. I knew one of the mains things I could do to help further my career was to obtain my CPA license.

What excites you most about working in accounting?

What excites me the most is that I know no workday will be the same. I may work on a client with a large farm one day and the next day be working on a 990 for a non-profit organization or assisting a client with a payroll issue. I truly am able to see multiple aspects of the accounting world and continue to learn more each day on the job.

What aspects of your TXCPA/TXCPA East Texas membership do you find most valuable?

The most valuable part of being a member is the networking. You get to interact with like-minded people that you know you can relate to your job and are there for support if needed.
