TXCPA Permian Basin recognized J.D. Faircloth, CPA, CGMA, as the 2023-24 Mary Alice Tidwell Service Award winner at the chapter’s annual meeting on January 12.

The Mary Alice Tidwell Service Award recognizes a TXCPA Permian Basin member who has distinguished himself/herself in the local community, TXCPA Permian Basin and the CPA profession. This award is based on contributions to charitable, community and/or civic activities; and the encouragement of other CPAs to actively participate, make substantial contributions to and become leaders in their communities, the chapter and the profession.

J.D. has been a licensed CPA and TXCPA member for 50 years! He also holds a CGMA designation and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. J.D. retired from Whitley Penn after a career in both public accounting and industry. Although retired, J.D. recently enjoyed time as interim Chief Financial Officer for a public company here in Midland.

J.D. is a past president of TXCPA Permian Basin. He has served on the board of directors for various nonprofit organizations in the Permian Basin throughout his career, including MOTRAN, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church Midland. He also served in various roles within other community and civic organizations and local government, including serving as mayor of Midland and on the City Council for many years.

Teaching students and professionals alike is one of J.D.'s passions. He worked as an adjunct professor at UTPB on many occasions, and was a frequent speaker at his firm and TXCPA Permian Basin CPE events. Chances are, if you heard him speak, you left a little more knowledgeable about accounting for the oil and gas industry.

Since retiring, J.D. and his wife Venita moved to Frisco where they now reside and are enjoying spending time with their kids and grandkids.
