In What’s Happening Around Texas, we give you highlights of events and activities happening around the state in the TXCPA chapters.
Members and student guests gathered at the TXCPA Brazos Valley Annual Meeting, where panelists shared career journeys and their passion for the accounting profession. Attendees also heard an update from TXCPA’s Kenneth Besserman on key issues affecting the CPA license and ongoing advocacy efforts. This spring, members from Seidel Schroeder connected with Blinn College accounting students at its Accounting Careers Showcase across three campuses. Through real-world insights and practical advice, they helped students better understand the many paths within the profession.
TXCPA Houston recognized the University of Houston’s VITA volunteers with a celebration lunch honoring the students, faculty and administrators who helped deliver free tax prep to more than 800 seniors and low-income families. Members also gathered at the Houston Arboretum for Cultivating Connections: A CPA Garden Party, an evening of conversation, recognition and fun in a beautiful outdoor setting. At a relaxed Mix and Mingle event, they reconnected, met new faces and strengthened ties across Houston’s accounting community.
TXCPA Panhandle held the chapter’s 1st Annual Pars for the Profession Golf Tournament and it was a swinging success! Thanks to the incredible support of players and sponsors, 12 teams took to the course for a day of camaraderie, competition and fun, raising $1,700 for scholarships benefiting accounting students in the Texas Panhandle region. This meaningful event brought the community together, and the strong turnout and generosity on display highlight the chapter’s commitment to investing in the next generation of CPAs.
TXCPA South Plains members gathered for their final chapter meeting of the year. The event featured a presentation by Dr. Feruzan Irani Williams of the Texas Tech University Rawls College of Business Administration, who shared insights on Bridging Generations and fostering stronger connections across today’s diverse workforce. The chapter also recognized their outgoing president and board members, and honored several members with awards for their contributions and commitment to the profession. It was a memorable and celebratory close to a successful year.
