Peer Assistance

Whatever you’re facing—stress, burnout, addiction, anxiety—you don’t have to go through it alone.
The Accountants Confidential Assistance Network (ACAN) is here to connect you with another CPA who understands.

We’re a network of CPAs who’ve walked in your shoes. If you’re struggling with mental health challenges, stress, substance use or personal difficulties, we’re here to listen—without judgment.

We Are A Community That Understands

The ACAN network is made up of CPAs who’ve walked the same road. We know the pressures of this profession because we’ve felt them—tight deadlines, high client expectations and the constant push to be perfect. Many of us have faced our own turning points and found a healthier path forward. Now, we’re here to stand beside you, offering understanding, hope and real-life support from people who truly get it.

Here’s How We Can Help

Whether you’re simply wondering if something’s off or you’re ready to explore ways forward, ACAN is here to connect you with trusted resources, confidential conversations and a community of peers who truly understand.

We assist CPAs, CPA candidates and accounting students by:

  • Offering one-on-one peer support

  • Connecting you with professional help

  • Participating in interventions at the request of firms or families

How Are You Really Doing?

Take a quiet moment to check in with yourself. There’s no scorecard, no judgment—just questions to help you see if it might be time to reach out for support.

Your Relationship with Alcohol or Substances

  • Do you find yourself making plans to “manage” or limit your drinking?

  • Once you start, is it hard to stop or stick to your plan?

  • Have you ever risked your career or reputation to use alcohol or drugs?

  • Do you drink or use specifically to change your mood?

  • Do you feel restless, irritable, or unhappy when you’re not using?

  • Have you lost interest in hobbies or activities you used to enjoy?

  • Have you driven under the influence?

  • Do you miss work, show up late, or cancel commitments because of alcohol or drugs?

  • Do you often blame others for problems linked to your use?

  • Do you prefer to drink or use alone?

  • Have you tried to cut down or quit and found it hard?

  • Do you skip important events to drink or use?

  • Does it take more than it used to for you to feel the same effect?

  • Do you have a drink first thing in the morning?
