Time Sensitive Communication with the IRS

  • Published on Jun 3, 2025

The TXCPA Federal Tax Policy Committee expressed concern to the IRS about delays in the processing of time-sensitive taxpayer correspondence, often due to both postal service slowdowns and inefficiencies within the IRS.

The letter highlights numerous examples where delayed IRS responses caused confusion, unnecessary notices, and extra work for taxpayers, representatives, and the agency.

TXCPA recommends solutions such as a three-week delay before issuing certain notices, better tracking of mail, simplified secure communication tools, and more consistent use of email or fax. While supporting ongoing IRS modernization efforts, the committee urges immediate practical steps to reduce disruptions and improve service.
