As the possibility of a federal government shutdown remains, TXCPA is committed to
keeping you informed and supported throughout any disruptions that may affect tax
administration, IRS operations, or your practice.
What You Need to Know:
- IRS Operations: On Sept. 29, the IRS issued a FY26 Lapsed Appropriations
Contingency Plan. In the event of a shutdown, the IRS has announced that all
employees will continue working for the first five business days of a lapse in
appropriations. However, past shutdowns have resulted in substantial wait
times for IRS phone services, challenges with online account access and
electronic payments, suspension of audit, examination, and appeals
activities, and the issuance of automated IRS collection notices without the
ability to resolve them. - Advocacy: AICPA and TXCPA continue to advocate for plans that minimize
disruption, including keeping online systems accessible, providing automatic
extensions for notices and collections, and retaining more staff to support
taxpayers and practitioners. - Member Support: TXCPA is here to help you stay informed, advocate for
your interests, and provide the resources you need to serve your clients and
community. We will monitor the situation closely and communicate timely
updates as they are made available.
