TXCPA Urges Texas Delegation to Support Fiscal State of the Nation Act

TXCPA is encouraging Texas lawmakers to support H.R. 7026, the Fiscal State of the Nation Act. This bill would give Congress clearer, more consistent financial insights and help strengthen long‑term fiscal decision‑making.

The Texas Society of CPAs, in collaboration with the American Institute of CPAs and other state CPA societies, expresses strong support for H.R. 7026, the Fiscal State of the Nation Act, and urges our Texas Members of Congress to cosponsor this legislation. TXCPA issued a letter to the Texas congressional delegation formally requesting that they cosponsor this important bill. The legislation takes an important step toward ensuring that Congress has fair, balanced and timely information when making long-term fiscal decisions on behalf of the American people.

H.R. 7026 would require a joint hearing of the House and Senate Budget Committees to receive an annual presentation from the U.S. Comptroller General on the federal government’s audited financial statements. This straightforward requirement helps ensure that Congress has access to consistent, fact-based insights about the nation’s fiscal condition – an especially important need in today’s complex financial environment.

TXCPA respectfully encourages support for H.R. 7026 and firmly believes that reliable, objective and well-balanced financial information is essential to sound fiscal decision-making.

  • The IRS May Owe Your Clients Money from the COVID Period
Recent court decisions have opened a largely overlooked opportunity for significant tax refunds based on mandatory disaster relief under IRC Section 7508A during the federally declared COVID-19 disaster period. As a result, interest and penalties assessed during this period may be invalid and refundable, and some taxpayers who received refunds may also be entitled to unpaid overpayment interest. While uncertainty remains and the IRS may resist such claims, timely protective refund filings are critical to preserve clients rights as the statute of limitations continues to run.
