Happy New Year! I know… it seems strange hearing that in the middle of the year, but June 1 marked the beginning of our new fiscal year here at TXCPA Houston. I can’t tell you what an honor and a privilege it is to serve as your 2022-2023 TXCPA Houston President. While some may consider me relatively new to Houston (8 years and count-ing), I’m no stranger to TXCPA. Check out the June 7 Facebook Live Tuesday Talk recording on TXCPA Houston’s social media pages to hear more about my TXCPA journey to becoming TXCPA Houston President!

We have an amazing group of leaders in place for this year, including the Executive Commit-tee, Board of Directors, and committee chairs/vice chairs, not to mention our hardworking staff members led by Mark Allen. We’ve already met as a group for our annual Leadership Day early in May to kick-off and start planning for the year, and the room was on fire with all the energy in the room! It was inspiring to see so many great ideas discussed and the personal connections made. You know you're part of a fantastic organization when you see that many volunteers are taking time out of their busy lives, speaking passionately about what we do and trying to figure out ways we can have an impact on more people.

As we kick off the new year, we look to build on the success of the past year. It might be cliché to say, but Kelly Hunter is a hard act to follow! A huge thank you to Kelly for leading us through a successful and productive 2021-2022 year. As we learned how to live with our new post-COVID normal and returned to more in-person events, we had several individuals step up to the challenge. We were able to recognize many of these noteworthy members at our annual Awards Ceremony on June 7 and are highlighting all the award recipients in this issue. They should serve as an inspiration to all of us, demonstrating how every one of us can make a difference in our organization. I encourage you to check out the list of our award winners and take the time to congratulate them and thank them for all they do to benefit our members.

I hope reading about our award winners inspires you to check out one of our events and see what you may have been missing out on! One of the most meaningful benefits we offer our members is a way to connect with others in our community. No matter how you like to engage with the Chapter, there is something for you. From CPE events and networking opportunities to social activities and the chance to make new friends and give back to the profession, we have it all! We’d love to see you at one of our upcoming events. Visit www. txcpahouston.cpa for a list of all the events you don’t want to miss! And, if you haven’t already renewed your membership for the new year, make sure you don’t overlook your renewal statement so that you can continue being a part of all of our events.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve TXCPA Houston. It is truly humbling to know I’m part of such a wonderful organization supported by such talented and committed individuals. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time if you have any suggestions on how I can better serve you, our members.

I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together this year!
